Bran is revealed to be a part of the Night King. That's how the Night King can control the dead, using Bran's warging powers. The Night King kills Arya and Bran warges into her body to deliver the final blow. Removed basically everything that originally happened at the end. No Bran becoming king.

Spoilers. The most infuriating thing about seasons 6-8 is the sheer amount of plot armour and deus ex machinas forced into the scenes to avoid the corners that the writers wrote the characters into. Characters who make stupid decisions escape the consequences of their actions, which completely contradicts one of the highlights of the series.
